Former Pittsburgh Penguins star Kevin Stevens was charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone Thursday in federal court.
According to Milton J. Valencia of the Boston Globe, Stevens and another man were charged, and they are being held until a detention hearing takes place Tuesday.
Per Valencia, Stevens was part of the NHL's substance abuse program during his playing career, and his attorney, John J. Commisso, said his client is dealing with "injuries, pain and other challenges."
The 51-year-old Brockton, Massachusetts, native spent 15 seasons in the NHL from 1987 through 2002 with the Pens, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.
