The Tampa Bay Lightning traded a 2025 third-round pick to acquire signing rights to former Carolina Hurricanes winger Jake Guentzel, the team announced Sunday.

It looks like Guentzel's brief tenure with the Hurricanes will end with the team's second-round elimination by the New York Rangers.
By acquiring his rights before the start of free agency on July 1, the Lightning will now be able to offer Guentzel an eighth year on his next contract.
