Former Ottawa Senators player Alex Formenton was charged by police in London, Ontario, for his connection to the ongoing investigation into alleged sexual assault by multiple members of Canada's 2018 world junior team.
"Alex will vigorously defend his innocence and asks that people not rush to judgment without hearing all of the evidence," lawyer Daniel Brown said in a statement to Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press.
Whyno noted Formenton turned himself into police on Sunday.
While Brown did not specify the charge, Formenton's legal team did confirm to Whyno he was one of multiple players charged.
