The first very needed move came with firing coach Guy Boucher. In 228 games as the Senators coach, Boucher posted a 94-108-26 record. His first year as coach the Sens had an amazing year, finishing one goal away from the Stanley Cup Final. However, the next two seasons weren’t so pretty for the nation’s capital. Ottawa has since embarked on a complete rebuild, trading multiple star players and ultimately firing the coach.
When you fire your coach, you need to find a new one. Pierre Dorion decided to hire former Toronto Assistant Coach, DJ Smith as coach for the Ottawa Senators.
