In a deep NFL Draft class for defensive players, Florida State Seminoles defensive back Jalen Ramsey is among the best. He was a play maker at FSU and played both safety and corner. While he was more productive at safety in terms of turnovers, he profiles as the tall corner with long arms (think Richard Sherman) that the NFL is moving to.
Ramsey can play either CB or S at the next level, and his exact fits likely depends on the team that drafts him. After performing well at the NFL Combine, Ramsey has likely guaranteed that he'll be the first defensive back off the board. Ramsey, barring injury or an undiscovered character issue, is a lock for the Top 10 and should go in the Top 5. With that in mind, here are the five teams most likely to select Jalen Ramsey in the 2016 NFL Draft.
5. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins hold the No. 8 overall pick and it's tough to see Ramsey falling past Miami. Heck, a team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could try to trade up and with the 49ers at No. 7 overall to get Ramsey before the Dolphins could. Miami has a major need in the secondary and keeping Ramsey in-state would help fix the need. This is pretty much the floor of Ramsey's draft stock.
4. Tennessee Titans
The Titans hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, making them the absolute ceiling for Ramsey in the NFL Draft. The Titans have a need at both safety and cornerback and could plug Ramsey in at either of those spots. However, most project the Titans to take Laremy Tunsil to help shore up the offensive line. Consider Tunsil the favorite for now, with Ramsey a dark horse.
3. San Diego Chargers
The Chargers have Jason Verrett at one corner spot, but the other ones are up in the air. Brandon Flowers struggled last year and is aging. Patrick Robinson played well, but is a free agent. There are two safety spots that need to be filled as well. The Chargers have needs across the offensive line and for a pass rusher, but Ramsey could still be their selection. 2. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens have Jimmy Smith at corner, but badly need another player to pair with him. If Ramsey is on the board at No. 6 overall, the Ravens would likely snatch him up in a heart beat. Baltimore is no doubt high on Ramsey, especially give general manager Ozzie Newsome's affinity for Power 5 prospects. Ramsey would be a great fit in Baltimore, but he might not last that long.
1. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are likely to cut Brandon Carr, making their need at corner even bigger than it already was. Even if the team brings back Morris Claiborne, Dallas will need to find another starter. Free agency might be too expensive, but Ramsey could be on the board for the team's No. 4 overall selection. It makes perfect sense and Ramsey would give the Cowboys the impact defender they're looking for.
