Carolina’s offensive flaws were on full display in Super Bowl 50.
The Carolina Panthers had the best season in the franchise’s history, winning 15 games in the regular season and making their first Super Bowl appearance since 2003. And they did so because they were absolutely dominant team on both sides of the ball during the regular season.
Defensively, the Panthers were as good as any team in the league. They ranked sixth in yards allowed per game, sixth in points per game, first in opponents passer rating, and second in defensive DVOA. Carolina had four pro bowl players (LB Luke Kuechly, LB Thomas Davis, CB Josh Norman, DT Kawann Short) on that side of the ball.
