Blake Bortles took a big step forward his sophomore season only to step back in his third year in the NFL. What happened?
In a weak rookie quarterback class, Blake Bortles was selected third overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2014 NFL draft. Bortles was the first quarterback off the board in 2014, ahead of Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, and Derek Carr. Clearly a project prospect out of UCF, many criticized the Jaguars’ draft decision. However, Bortles’ prototypical quarterback body and outstanding athleticism were enough for others to have hope for the young prospect.
Bortles’ rookie season was nothing less than a complete disaster.
