A torn Achilles has sidelined Cowboys defensive tackle Chris Whaley and will test the team’s depth at the position.
Whaley was sent from the team’s Oxnard, Calif. training camp home back to Dallas after suffering the injury Monday. The diagnosis was confirmed Tuesday.
The Cowboys brought just six defensive tackles to camp, and Terrell McClain and Nick Hayden have been battling minor injuries. Whaley would have been in line for significant action early in the preseason and potentially a practice squad spot later.
His absence will likely necessitate Jack Crawford, who’s usually a defensive end, moving inside.
