The conversation Texans coach Bill O’Brien, GM Brian Gaine and head athletic trainer Geoff Kaplan had with their quarterback, Deshaun Watson early last week was remarkably short, given what all of us on the outside would perceive as the gravity of the situation.
At that point, the team was still mulling options for Watson to travel to Jacksonville, with the 23-year-old’s rib and lung injuries taking flying off the table. And as part of planning, with 12 hours of ground travel necessary, they had to ask Watson himself a pretty straightforward question: What do you want to do?
