The 49ers reportedly fear that star linebacker NaVorro Bowman tore his Achilles during Sunday's home defeat to the Dallas Cowboys. Bowman is scheduled to have an MRI scan later today, but for an injury this severe the scan is usually just to confirm and investigate any associated structural damage, and to give a clear picture ahead of surgery. The team doctors almost always know immediately. Assuming the reported suspicions are correct, Bowman will miss the rest of the season -- his second major injury in just under three years. With fellow starter Ray-Ray Armstrong also on injured reserve with a torn pectoral, the 49ers are likely reduced to Michael Wilhoite and Nick Bellore at inside linebacker with Gerald Hodges as the backup.
