Victor Cruz prepared to produce and mentor in Chicago Bears' transitioning WR corps

LAKE FOREST — Victor Cruz is the newest addition to the Bears’ transitioning wideout corps. He also became Chicago’s most accomplished pass catcher the moment he signed his one-year deal Tuesday.

The 30-year-old former salsa-dancing Giant says he understands what that entails. He’ll be expected to both produce for a hodgepodge receiving unit trying to replace Alshon Jeffery and provide Kevin White contingencies, while also serving as a mentor as the group’s elder statesman.

“Yeah, that was part of it, I understood that coming in,” said Cruz on Tuesday following the Bears’ organized training activity. “In the NFL you kind of just fall into that leadership category.
