Rules, written or otherwise, suck all the fun out of pro sports. What’s wrong with adding them back?
I know this is a football column, but I’m gonna start with a little baseball for a frame of reference.
The unwritten rules in baseball have been entrenched in the culture of the sport for just about a hundred years now. They’ve stayed in place despite a swelling number of people questioning why the unwritten rules need to exist.
Last year, baseball Hall of Famer Goose Gossage called current Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista “a disgrace to the game” when Bautista flipped his bat after hitting a go-ahead home run in last year’s ALDS against the Texas Rangers.
