Trevor Siemian named Denver Broncos' Week One starter

The Broncos are passing the quarterback torch from future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning to 2015 seventh-round pick Trevor Siemian, Gary Kubiak confirmed Monday.

Siemian beat out Mark Sanchez, whom the Broncos acquired in a trade from Philadelphia, and first-round pick Paxton Lynch for the right to start for the defending champions in a Week One Super Bowl 50 rematch versus the Panthers.

Siemian has impressed Kubiak this offseason with his poise and grasp of the playbook, which was firmer than the newcomers, Sanchez and Lynch. He finished the preseason with a passer rating of just 70.
