New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who guided the franchise to two Super Bowl championships and three NFC East division titles, announced Monday he is stepping down as the team's head coach.
Coughlin leaves after the Giants failed to reach the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year in the wake of their third consecutive losing season. New York's last playoff appearance came in 2011 when Coughlin led the team to its second Super Bowl title in four years.
The Giants couldn't improve on last season's 6-10 mark, finishing the season with an identical 6-10 record.
