When the Panthers drafted linebacker Shaq Thompson in the first round of this year’s draft, the team was quick to say that the rookie’s arrival was not an indication that they were ready to move on from Thomas Davis.
Davis is in the final year of his contract and General Manager Dave Gettleman said that picking Thompson “doesn’t change a thing” about the team’s desire to extend Davis’s pact. Despite the interest from both parties, the two sides haven’t been able to reach agreement on a new deal yet. Davis sounds optimistic about that changing before the start of training camp.
