Going 16-0 is great. Winning the Super Bowl is better.
In 1972, the Don Shula and Bob Griese-led Miami Dolphins accomplished what no other professional football team had done before, going 14-0 in the regular season and then winning Super Bowl VII against the Washington Redskins. The team not only made history with their perfect record, but also transcended the confines of the NFL to secure a place in all-time sports lore.
Before the Dolphins, in the pre-Super Bowl era, the ‘34 and ‘42 Chicago Bears were close to achieving the perfect record, but lost the NFL Championship game both times.
