The N.F.L. and the N.F.L. Players Association were ordered into settlement negotiations on the case the union filed in federal court in Minneapolis over Adrian Peterson’s suspension.
Magistrate Judge Janie Mayeron set a settlement conference for Aug. 13.
The union filed a petition last November, seeking a rejection of the N.F.L. arbitrator Harold Henderson’s denial of Peterson’s appeal of his suspension. Peterson, a Minnesota Vikings running back, was punished by the league over child abuse charges in Texas regarding his disciplining of his young son. A United States District Court judge sided with the union in February, and the league appealed.
