The Saints are having a bit of an Ellis Island rookie minicamp this weekend, with a number of veteran strays among their huddled masses.

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com, the Saints have brought in several veterans who seemed to be good ideas at the time when they came out of college, but haven’t amounted to much as pros.

Highlighting the group of former college stars are former Buccaneers second-round defensive end Da’Quan Bowers and former Bengals third-round tight end Chase Coffman.

Bowers might have been a high first-rounder in 2011 but for a knee injury that derailed his career, along with a torn Achilles in 2012.
