Saints cut veteran tight end Alex Smith after short stay

The Saints apparently saw enough of tight end Alex Smith in a little over a week.

According to Evan Woodbery of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Saints have released the veteran tight end, who was signed nine days ago when they needed a replacement for injured rookie Jack Tabb.

Smith has bounced around the league, and only played two games last year with the Bengals. He’s also spent time with the Buccaneers, Eagles and Browns.

The Saints were banged up at the time he was brought in, but they’re apparently comfortable with the four tight ends on the roster at the moment — Ben Watson, Josh Hill, Orson Charles and Kevin Brock.
