Russell Wilson will not play for the Denver Broncos during the 2024 season, but they're still going to pay for their previous decision to trade for him.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Broncos released the quarterback with a post-June 1 designation and will spread out the ensuing cap hit by assuming $53 million of it in 2024 and $32 million of it in 2025.
The cost would probably be less difficult for the Broncos to accept if things worked out differently with Wilson.
Instead, he went 11-19 as a starter over the course of two seasons in Denver, which was a far cry from when he was a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion during his time on the Seattle Seahawks.
