Roger Staubach Makes Awkward Joke About Concussions, Roger Goodell Laughs

Awkward is definitely the best way to describe Roger Staubach's opening joke at Tuesday's National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria New York hotel.

The retired NFL quarterback mistakenly referred to league commissioner Roger Goodell as Pete Rozelle, who had held office for the duration of Staubach's career. Another gentleman pretended to stop Staubach and correct him, which is when he "corrected" himself, saying "Roger Goodell."

Cue the punchline.

"I apologize," he said. "I had six concussions in the NFL."

Yeah. Emphasis on the awkward.

The crowd's laughter did not reignite after the shock and awe following the punchline.
