Report: Chargers to work out Marcus Mariota on Tuesday

AP

The Chargers will put one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft through his paces on Tuesday.

The club will work out Marcus Mariota in Eugene, Oregon, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Chargers officials were set to huddle with the former University of Oregon star on Monday night, the newspaper said.

The Chargers have an established blue-chip quarterback in Philip Rivers, but he is entering the final year of his contract, and he hasn’t yet committed to signing an extension. Furthermore, Rivers is 12 years older than the 21-year-old Mariota, the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner at Oregon.
