The 49ers visited with former Bears linebacker Lance Briggs late in March when the team was scrambling to fill out their depth chart after the retirements of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland, but they wound up signing Philip Wheeler and Desmond Bishop at the position.
Briggs may still wind up on the team, however. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that the 49ers remain interested in the seven-time Pro Bowler despite their other additions at the position.
Timing may be playing a role in the 49ers’ approach with Briggs.
