Trump said Friday that he wants to meet with athletes — and specifically NFL players — who choose to take a knee during the anthem as a form of protest over social-justice concerns to ask them if there are people they believe who were treated unfairly by the justice system. Trump said he will then consider pardoning or commuting the sentences of people they recommend.
"I'm going to ask them to recommend to me people who were unfairly treated," Trump said, via CNN.com.
This was a somewhat unexpected development in the anthem debate following the drama of the Philadelphia Eagles being disinvted to the White House last week, which came on the heels of a new NFL-mandated anthem policy that appeared to anger the majority of the players.
