At points this offseason, the possibility that the Chargers will be moving to Los Angeles was reportedly a reason why quarterback Philip Rivers was willing to play out the final year of his contract with the team.
Fast forward a few months and things look very different. Rivers has signed an extension through 2019 and it comes with a no-trade clause that will keep Rivers with a lightning bolt on the side of his head no matter the zip code of the team’s stadium.
Ed Werder of ESPN reported Monday that Rivers’s contract includes such a clause as opposed to out clauses that would free Rivers should the team relocate.
