Sad day in the football world, especially the offensive line world, as Alex Gibbs passed away at age 80. Gibbs was the godfather of the Shanahan zone-blocking scheme, spending 14 years with the Denver Broncos. His dominant running game helped a succession of lower-round picks become stars and helped the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Gibbs was also an assistant coaches for a number of other teams before retiring in 2010.
