The Texans started Brian Hoyer in their first preseason outing and Ryan Mallett in the second game, but neither player has made it obvious to coach Bill O’Brien that he should be the starting quarterback for the first week of the regular season.
Or the third week of the preseason, for that matter.
O’Brien declined to say who would be under center for the start of the team’s game against the Saints next Sunday in what’s usually a dress rehearsal of sorts for the regular season before teams hold key players out of the final preseason contest to keep them fresh for Week One.
