The Rams will receive fourth- and sixth-round picks from the Giants and will send Ogletree and a 2019 seventh-rounder to New York.
That will give the Rams a slew of picks on Day 3 of the draft — two fourth-rounders, one fifth and four sixth-round selections. They lack a second-round pick after trading it as part of the Jared Goff deal two years ago.
The deal comes as a surprise in that the Rams had signed Ogletree, who was a two-time captain, to a four-year, $42.75 million contract extension last October. It was widely considered that fellow inside linebacker Mark Barron might be dealt this offseason, but Ogletree's high salary and some missed tackles on what was a leaky run defense might have prompted the move.
