The C.J. Spiller experiment is over in New Orleans.
Spiller, who signed a four-year deal with $9 million guaranteed last offseason, has been released by the Saints.
Spiller struggled with injuries in his first season with the Saints, managing just 351 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns on 70 carries. But Sean Payton indicated Spiller was healthy this offseason and poised for a bigger role, again drumming up excitement of the possibilities for a dynamic dual-threat back in the Saints' proflific scheme.
Yet, Spiller was a healthy scratch in the Saints' Week One loss, wherein New Orleans piled up 35 points but relied more on RB Travaris Cadet in the passing game in addition to Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower.
