Minnesota Vikings place LT Matt Kalil (hip) on injured reserve, sign Ronnie Hillman for RB depth

Less than one hour after the news that Adrian Peterson will undergo surgery Thursday to repair his right torn meniscus — a procedure that could signal the end of his Vikings career — Minnesota placed left tackle Matt Kalil on injured reserve with a hip injury that will almost certainly end the former No. 3 overall pick's run with the club.

Kalil was playing on his fifth-year option and will be an unrestricted free agent next spring. Since going to the Pro Bowl as a rookie, Kalil has struggled mightily with both injuries and inconsistency. His replacement will be second-year player T.
