Matt Ryan has short, productive night; Ryan Fitzpatrick not so much

The Falcons didn’t have Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman or Roddy White on offense Friday night in the Meadowlands, but they didn’t miss them all that much.

Matt Ryan threw a touchdown pass and set up a touchdown run during the two possessions that he played in the first quarter against the Jets. That continues his sharp start to the preseason against the Titans last week, although you can issue him one demerit for going 3-of-4 in New Jersey after completing all six passes he tried against the Titans.

Ryan, who was 4-of-5 for 75 yards overall, hit fullback Colin Mooney for a 60-yard gain on the Falcons’ opening possession on a play that saw Mooney slip past Jets linebacker Quinton Coples in coverage and then threw a touchdown pass to Leonard Hankerson when an apparent miscommunication in the Jets secondary left him wide open in the end zone.
