Khalil Mack will be in Green Bay on Opening Night, but his stay there won’t be as long as many Packers fans had hoped. That’s because the Packers’ rivals, the Chicago Bears, were willing to pay a price for the 27-year-old pass rusher that the new Green Bay front office would not.
When it was clear Mack was available from the Oakland Raiders last week for the right price — two first-round selections — the first team that came to many folks’ minds as a possible landing spot was the Packers.
That was in part because the Packers had a clear need at the edge-rushing spot, with the inconsistent Nick Perry and the aged Clay Matthews in the featured roles there.
