Los Angeles Rams hire Sean McVay, 30, the youngest head coach in NFL history

The Rams on Thursday hired former Washington offensive coordinator Sean McVay, making him the youngest head coach in NFL history.

McVay, who turns 31 Jan. 24, inherits a 4-12 Rams squad that has opened each of the past five seasons with the NFL's youngest roster. McVay interviewed twice for the Rams, once last week and again Wednesday, prior to the team making the news official.

With the Rams choosing McVay, that leaves just two openings, both also in California: the Chargers and 49ers.

McVay's Washington offense ascended from No. 17 in 2015 to third overall last season, his third in charge.
