Safety Kenny Phillips appeared to be on track for a successful NFL career when he returned from 2009 microfracture surgery on his knee to make 31 starts with the Giants over the next two years.
Phillips won a Super Bowl, picked off five passes and made 159 tackles over those two seasons, but knee trouble returned in 2012 and Phillips was limited to seven appearances in his final year in New Jersey. He signed with the Eagles, but the knee problems lingered and he was out of the NFL until he signed a future contract with the Saints late last year.
