Following recent articles in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times detailing the use of racist, homophobic and misogynistic terms by Jon Gruden in emails reportedly dating back to 2010, Gruden has informed the staff of the Las Vegas Raiders that he is resigning as Raiders head coach. Gruden denounced the hiring of women as referees and the drafting of Michael Sam, and referred to commissioner Roger Goodell using a derogatory anti-gay slur. These emails were between Gruden and Washington executive Bruce Allen and were uncovered as part of an investigation into sexual harassment at the Washington Football Team.
