Ever since shuttering NFL Europa in 2007, the NFL has lacked a developmental league under its own control.
That may be changing soon.
Former Giants coach Jim Fassel dropped a nugget of news during an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, saying: “Don’t be surprised if there was a very good spring league opening next year in the NFL”
While the artist formerly known as the World League of American Football/NFL Europe produced a solid amount of NFL players, the void for developing players has been clear. Ventures such as a number of indoor leagues and the UFL and XFL have never gained much traction, but it has long seemed like an underserved market.
