New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who had to have his right index finger amputated and suffered other injuries to the hand after a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July, briefly spoke with Steve Serby of the New York Post about the incident.
Pierre-Paul told Serby that he wasn't particularly scared after the incident occurred but recognized immediately that he needed to get to the emergency room and lost a lot of blood. At the hospital, he told the doctor not to amputate his hand before passing out.
"It’s easier to take a shortcut out," he said, explaining why he felt the need to tell the doctor not to amputate his hand.
