Dak Prescott was never supposed to start a game this past season.
Four-time Pro Bowler Tony Romo was coming back from a broken collarbone and looking to rebound to his spectacular 2014 form in which he led the league in passer rating. Kellen Moore was the veteran backup, having started two games of his own in 2015.
A fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State, Prescott had to fight just to secure a roster spot. But after injuries to Romo and Moore, and a victorious battle against second-year quarterback Jameill Showers, Prescott emerged as the Week 1 starter for the Dallas Cowboys, and has not looked back since.
