Dan Quinn doesn’t want to make the soldier’s name public, because the soldier himself wouldn’t want that. But even without the name attached—his story has been confirmed—it’s a story worth telling, especially on the week of Independence Day. It might be the best way to honor the soldier’s impact on his Falcons.

Quinn met him through his Quinn’s Corps program a few years back, and the Army cavalry specialist explained what happened to him when he was deployed in Afghanistan. A buddy of his had been killed two days earlier. Determined to avenge him, and knowing where the assailants were, the soldier sought retribution on enemy territory.
