Saquon Barkley will be a free agent for the first time in his career.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New York Giants have elected not to use the franchise tag on the two-time Pro Bowl running back before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.
This doesn't necessarily preclude the Giants from bringing Barkley back, but it does give him the opportunity to explore the market and see what teams have an interest in adding one of the NFL's most dynamic playmakers.
Barkley's potential departure leaves the Giants with a huge hole to fill in an offense that was already one of the most leaky units in the league last season.
