Former Auburn Tigers and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dave Edwards died in his sleep Monday evening at the age of 76.
According to the Associated Press, Edwards' brother disclosed that the Super Bowl champion was scheduled to undergo surgery this week after he was diagnosed with a heart condition.
The Denver Broncos selected Edwards in the 25th round of the 1962 AFL draft, but he spent the entirety of his 13-year career with the Cowboys.
Former Cowboys vice president of player personnel Gil Brandt reflected on Edwards' tenure with the team once the news broke:
Signed Dave away from Broncos w/ $1k bonus.
