Falcons sign Evan Royster

With three backs ailing, the Falcons have gone outside the organization to add a healthy body to the mix.

The team announced Sunday that they have signed Evan Royster, who is new to the team but not unfamiliar with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Royster was a sixth-round pick of the Redskins in 2011 and Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the team through the 2013 season.

That was Royster’s last in Washington as he was cut at the end of last summer and didn’t catch on anywhere else during the 2014 season. He had 328 yards on 56 carries as a rookie, but Alfred Morris’s arrival pushed him down the depth chart and Royster carried the ball just 25 times in his final two years with the team.
