Eric Berry was adamant about not playing under the franchise tag again next season, and the Chiefs made sure Tuesday he will start the 2017 season with a new contract in his back pocket.
Kansas City is finalizing a six-year, $78 million deal with Berry, making him the highest-paid safety in the NFL, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Berry had a stellar season playing under the franchise tag in 2016, posting 77 tackles and four interceptions -- including two returned for touchdowns -- for the Chiefs.
