A trying season for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints has taken an ugly turn.
NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Tuesday that the perennial Pro Bowl quarterback was diagnosed with a torn plantar fascia after undergoing an MRI on the right foot he injured in Monday night's loss to the Detroit Lions.
Brees' status for Sunday's road game against the Jaguars is unknown. If the 36-year-old passer can't suit up, backup Matt Flynn would take the controls for an offense that ranks third in the NFL.
