Donovan McNabb told cops he had cold, blamed cough syrup for DUI

Former Eagles quarterback told police he had a cold, and blamed cough syrup for his recent DUI arrest.

According to Jim Walsh of the Arizona Republic, Gilbert police stopped him after he rear-ended another vehicle, which was being driven by the wife of a Gila River Tribal Police officer.

“While Donovan spoke, I noticed a strong, fruity odor on his breath. I noticed Donovan’s eyes were watery and very bloodshot and his speech was slurred,” the Gilbert officer wrote in the report.

Asked how much he had to drink, McNabb replied: “Nothing,” and said he had a cold and been taking cough syrup.
