Rusty but rested, New England's receivers returned to good effect against Kansas City, with their improved timing and the addition of Sebastian Vollmer aiding the Patriots offense against a Chiefs defense which was itself limited by injuries to its star pass rushers. The return of one-third of New England's offense (counting the questionable Rob Gronkowski), however, was offset during the game by the loss of at least three important defenders: linebackers Jamie Collins and Jerod Mayo, and defensive end Chandler Jones. One report claims that Mayo's shoulder injury is the most serious of the three, though there is no clear diagnosis; anything other than the most severe of shoulder injuries could possibly be supported by a brace, enabling the former-star-turned-backup to suit up.
