Just when we were actually thinking that the NFL's opening night of the preseason was unusually entertaining, comes this: The Steelers are under investigation for allegedly using a deflated football in the third quarter of Thursday night's 31-14 win over the Eagles.
The report comes from Howard Eskin on Twitter. The Eagles' sideline reporter for Sports radio 94 WIP in Philadelphia said the football in question was being used by Steelers rookie Mason Rudolph in the third quarter. When Eskin saw it on the sideline following an incompletion, it "looked like a marshmallow."
But NFL spokesman Michael Signora quickly put an end to the possibility of another Deflategate case opening via the following statement released on Twitter Friday morning:
"All footballs were in compliance with NFL rules following the pregame inspection process and all proper procedures were followed.
