We often see teams try to slip injured young players through waivers in the offseason in order to put them on injured reserve and replace them on the active roster with a healthy body.
Every now and then, another team throws a wrench into those plans by claiming the injured player with designs on waiting until they can just put the player on injured reserve directly when cutting the rosters down later in the summer. We saw a case of that on Thursday when the Colts claimed cornerback Tevin Mitchel.
Mitchel was a sixth-round pick of the Redskins this year, but tore the labrum in his shoulder recently and will miss the 2015 season while recovering from surgery.
