Neither of Washington’s backup quarterback options have exactly distinguished themselves so far.
So it makes sense to let them continue to compete for the job.
According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the plan for now is to let Colt McCoy and Kirk Cousins battle for the No. 2 job throughout the preseason.
Both had chances to start last season, with McCoy leading a pair of wins and Cousins one.
“Both of them, like I said before, have had a taste of the starting quarterback job in the NFL and they both want it back real bad,” Washington coach Jay Gruden said.
