Federal prosecutors said 10 former N.F.L. players, including running back Clinton Portis, have been accused of defrauding one of the league’s health care benefit programs.
The United States Department of Justice was expected to provide details at a news conference on Thursday morning on what it called a scheme to take advantage of the program.
Portis played nine seasons in the N.F.L., including seven with the Washington Redskins.
The agency said in a release announcing the news conference that Carlos Rogers, a defensive back who last played in 2014, was also involved.
